Project Title: Nutritional Support to 60 TB Patients from Economically Weaker Families in Pathar Pratima block under Ni-kshay Mitra initiative. Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be a major public health challenge in India, particularly among economically weaker populations. Adequate nutrition is essential for recovery, as undernourished patients have weakened immunity and poor treatment outcomes. In geographically isolated regions like Pathar Pratima block of Sundarbans, poverty, lack of healthcare access, and poor awareness further aggravate the condition of TB patients. Addressing nutritional deficiencies alongside medical treatment is therefore critical to improving recovery rates and reducing mortality. Problem Statement: TB patients in Pathar Pratima face multiple challenges: • Severe malnutrition and poverty, limiting access to protein-rich food • Geographical barriers, restricting healthcare access and follow-up • Low awareness about nutrition and government schemes • Social stigma, leading to delayed treatment and isolation • Irregular support systems, including inconsistent nutritional aid • Loss of livelihood, worsening economic vulnerability These factors create a cycle of disease, malnutrition, and poverty, leading to poor treatment outcomes. Objectives: • Improve nutritional status of 60 TB patients • Enhance treatment adherence and success rates • Provide support to economically weaker families • Reduce treatment default and mortality • Promote community participation through stakeholders • Address social determinants like poverty and malnutrition • Contribute to India’s TB elimination goal Project Intervention: SIDS proposes to provide monthly nutritional baskets to 60 identified TB patients in Pathar Pratima for 6 months. Each basket will include for each month: • Pulses (lentils)- 1.5 kg • Gram- 1 kg • Cooking oil- 500 gm • Neutrela (soya protein)- 500 gm • Eggs- 15 Nos. • Groundnuts- 200 gm • Seasonal fruits- 1 kg Collaboration with Health Departments: The project proposal has been developed in consultation with the Block Medical Officer of Health, Madhabnagar BPHC. However, our organization has been entrusted with the responsibility of providing nutritional support to 60 tuberculosis (TB) patients from the Pathar Pratima block under Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Implementation Strategy: • Identification of beneficiaries through health authorities • Monthly distribution via centers or doorstep delivery • Regular monitoring of treatment adherence and nutrition status Expected Outcomes: • Improved nutritional status and immunity of patients • Increased treatment adherence and completion rates • Reduction in mortality and treatment default • Decreased financial burden on poor families • Reduced TB transmission in the community • Strengthened progress toward TB elimination Monitoring & Evaluation: The project will use a structured monitoring framework: • Digital tracking via Nikshay Portal • Monthly reports from health workers • Field verification and beneficiary feedback Key indicators include: • Treatment completion rate • Nutritional improvement (weight/BMI) • Reduction in default cases • Patient satisfaction levels Stakeholder Involvement: • Healthcare providers: Treatment, monitoring, counseling • ASHA & Anganwadi workers: Last-mile delivery and follow-up • Donors & NGOs: Resource mobilization and awareness • Community leaders: Reducing stigma and supporting outreach • Beneficiaries: Adherence to treatment and program participation Budget Summary: Particulars Amount Nutritional support per month (Pulses (lintels)-1 kg, Gram- 1 kg, Neutrela- 500 gms, groundnuts- 200 gms, Cooking oil- 500 gms and Seasonal fruits- 1 Kg. and Egg-15 Nos.) Rs. 850.00 per patient per month x 60 TB patients x 6 months 3,06,000.00 Total estimated cost 3,06,000.00 Conclusion: This project aims to bridge the critical gap between medical treatment and nutritional support for TB patients in vulnerable regions. By addressing malnutrition and strengthening treatment adherence, the initiative will significantly improve health outcomes and contribute to India’s goal of eliminating TB.
