Your Kindness Can Ease Avi’s Everyday Struggles

My name is Aayush, and I’m the younger brother of Avi, who is 25 years old. My brother has been physically disabled since childhood. He can’t sit, walk, or even eat on his own. Every day, I see my parents struggling to take care of him, and it breaks my heart that I can’t do much to help.

I’m currently studying in college and staying in a hostel. I try to focus on my studies, hoping that one day I’ll be able to support my parents and take better care of my brother. But knowing what they’re going through at home makes it hard to concentrate. My parents are getting older, and the weight of everything; my brother’s care, my education, the household expenses are becoming too much for them.

A Mother’s Endless Sacrifice

My mother often says, “I just want my son’s pain to reduce. He can’t bear it anymore. I just want to see him smile again.” Hearing her say that hurts deeply because I know how much she’s sacrificed for both of us. She’s also physically challenged, but still spends every single moment looking after Avi; feeding him, bathing him, helping him through every small task.

A Father’s Struggle to Keep the Family Afloat

My father works as a tandoor helper at a small hotel in Amravati. Every day, he stands for long hours in front of the heat, trying to earn just enough so our family can get by. His monthly income is around ₹12,000–13,000, and even that isn’t steady. There are days when he earns nothing because he has to stay home to take Avi to the hospital or help my mother care for him.

He never complains, but I can see the tiredness in his eyes. Despite the pain in his hands from working with the tandoor and the constant worry about losing his job, he keeps going, because he knows there’s no other choice.

Avi’s Painful Health Condition

Avi’s health has been fragile since birth, but in the past year, it has become much worse. He suffers from a severe stomach condition that causes constant pain and nausea. There are days when he can’t even keep food down, and sometimes he goes two or three days without eating. My mother tries everything, feeding him small bites, making soft food, sitting beside him all night; but nothing seems to help for long.

We’ve taken him to doctors multiple times, and they’ve suggested further tests and proper treatment, but we simply can’t afford it.

It feels helpless to watch your brother suffer like that and not be able to do anything because of money.
