NEEV Giving Girls the Tools to Learn Lead and Rise

When we began our journey at Hope Begins Foundation, our focus was simple: to create opportunities where society had created limitations. We worked closely with differently-abled individuals, using sports as a platform to restore confidence, dignity, and joy in their lives. On the ground, while organising tournaments and community programmes, we met families who were fighting silent battles beyond disability – battles of poverty, inequality and most painfully, the denial of education to their daughters. That is where the seed of Project NEEV was planted.

Project NEEV was born from a very real observation. During our field visits, we met young girls who wanted to study but did not have notebooks to write in, pens to complete assignments, or basic school supplies to participate in class. Some of them shared books. Some avoided school activities because they felt embarrassed. We realised the problem was not willingness; it was access. Education was available in theory but not accessible in practice.

We understood that before building dreams, we must strengthen foundations. That is why we named it "NEEV", meaning "foundation". The idea was not complicated. If a girl is in school, she must have the tools to learn with confidence. By providing complete school stationery kits, we remove one of the most immediate and practical barriers that stands between her and her education. What may look like a simple notebook to us becomes dignity, participation, and belonging for her.

As we interacted with families, another challenge became clear: deeply rooted gender norms. In many homes, sons’ education was prioritised while daughters were expected to adjust. Girls were asked to manage household responsibilities, compromising study time. Some parents questioned the value of investing in a girl’s education at all. Through NEEV, we are not just distributing supplies; we are sending a strong message that a girl’s education matters equally and deserves equal support.

Education transforms more than report cards. When a girl studies, she gains the confidence to speak, to question, and to dream. She learns to make informed choices about her life. An educated girl grows into a woman who contributes economically, socially, and emotionally to her family and community. We have seen how one educated daughter can inspire younger siblings, influence parents’ thinking, and slowly reshape mindsets in entire neighbourhoods.

What makes NEEV special is that it is not a one-time distribution drive. It is a commitment to continuity. We identify communities where girls are at risk of dropping out due to lack of resources. We work closely with parents and local schools. We track progress. We ensure that the support reaches those who truly need it. Every kit delivered represents a conversation started, a stereotype challenged, and a future strengthened.

Today, NEEV stands as an extension of our belief that opportunity changes everything. Just as sports gave differently abled individuals a platform to prove their strength, education gives young girls a platform to build their future. Different challenges, same philosophy: when given the right support, people rise.

There are still many girls waiting for that support. Many who are bright, determined, and hopeful but held back by circumstances beyond their control. Through Project NEEV, we aim to reach them, stand beside them, and ensure that lack of basic resources never becomes the reason a dream fades.
