Make a Home for Cats Who Can Never Return to the Streets

Catshala is not just a shelter. It is the only home that 250+ rescued street cats have ever known.

Run by the Paw Saviour Foundation, a New Delhi-based non-profit dedicated to rescuing street cats found in critical distress Catshala stands as the only specialised cat shelter within a 700–800 km radius. Every single cat here was pulled from the streets in the worst possible condition: severely ill, badly injured, and with absolutely nowhere else to go.

The woman behind Catshala

Tanya Singh gave up a career in television to dedicate herself entirely to rescuing animals, and she has never looked back. More than a decade into this work, she still remembers the cat that changed everything for her.

"I got a call about a cat who had been hit by a vehicle. When I reached her, she was lying on the side of the road, completely paralysed from the waist down, but still alive and still looking at me. I didn't know what to do with her; no shelter would take her, no hospital wanted to keep her long-term. That's when I realised: if we don't build a place for cats like her, no one will. That cat is still with us today at Catshala."

The cats of Catshala are not ordinary rescues. These are the most vulnerable of the vulnerable:

• Cats with full or partial paralysis, unable to move on their own
• Blind cats who navigate the world entirely by trust and familiarity
• Cats with permanent disabilities from accidents, abuse, and untreated illness
• Long-term patients recovering from severe infections, surgeries, and trauma

There is a deadline and it is real.

Right now, Catshala runs on rented land. That lease is coming to an end in December 2026. If Paw Saviour Foundation cannot build a shelter of their own before that date, every single one of these 250+ cats will have no place to go. No shelter. No safety. No home. For animals this fragile, this is not a crisis of inconvenience, this is a matter of life and death.

What we need to build is specific. This is not a generic animal shelter. Catshala needs purpose-built infrastructure – ramps and flat flooring for paralysed cats; familiar enclosed spaces for blind cats who navigate entirely by memory; medical care stations for cats on long-term treatment; and safe, hygienic housing for over 250 permanent residents. A standard building cannot serve these animals. It has to be built for them.

The goal is ₹30,000,000 (₹3 crore) to acquire land and construct a permanent, purpose-built shelter that gives every one of these 250+ cats a safe, medically appropriate home before the December 2026 deadline.
