Story

It was late in the evening when we got the call. A cow had collapsed near the highway: unable to stand, badly injured, surrounded by traffic and fear. By the time we reached her, people had already decided the ending of her story. Some shook their heads. Some said there was nothing that could be done. She lay there silently, her body exhausted, her eyes still searching for help. Moving her was painful, slow, and uncertain. But leaving her there was never an option.

That night, when we finally brought her into our Gau Shala, we knew we were carrying more than a wounded body; we were carrying a responsibility.

That rescue changed something inside us. It reminded us that Gau Seva is not an occasional act of kindness; it is a lifelong commitment. From that day onwards, this work stopped being something we did and became something we lived. Every cow that came after her carried a similar story: abandoned after years of service, injured on the streets, starving in silence. Each rescue tested us physically and emotionally, but each survival strengthened our resolve.

This is how Shree Salasar Sewa Samiti Trust grew: not overnight, not with resources or recognition, but with faith and persistence. What began as a small effort slowly became a safe space for Gau Mata, who had nowhere else to go. Over the years, we have rescued and sheltered numerous cows who arrived broken, frightened, and weak and today live with dignity, care, and peace. Many who could not even stand when they reached us now walk freely within the Gau Shala. Their lives changed the moment we chose not to look away.

I have always believed that Gau Seva is not about charity but about duty. In his vision, serving Gau Mata is a way of serving society itself, because a community is judged by how it treats the most voiceless among it. That belief guides every decision we make, even on days when resources are limited and challenges feel overwhelming. It is this faith that keeps us going when rescues are difficult and outcomes uncertain.

Running a Gau Shala is daily, continuous work. Every morning begins with arranging fodder and clean water. Every day involves medical attention, cleaning, feeding, and monitoring the health of each cow. Seasons change, costs rise, and emergencies arrive without warning, but the needs of Gau Mata remain constant. Once a cow enters our care, she is family. Her life becomes our responsibility.

Today, when I look at the Gau Shala, I don’t just see shelters and feeding areas. I see lives that were once dismissed as lost causes. I see resilience, patience, and quiet strength. I see proof that when compassion is matched with action, change is possible.

This campaign is an extension of that belief. Your support helps us continue rescuing abandoned and injured cows, providing medical care, nourishment, warmth, and a safe environment where they are protected for life. When you contribute, you become part of every rescue, every recovery, and every life that finds safety instead of suffering.

We invite you to walk this path with us. Support our Gau Shala, ADOPT a cow, and help us ensure that no Gau Mata is left waiting on the roadside for mercy. Together, we can turn neglect into care and silence into safety for every life that depends on us.

With faith and humility,
