Story

I, Deepak Singh Chauhan, am writing this with folded hands as an elder brother who has run out of strength but not hope. My younger brother, Rahul Singh Chauhan (28 years), has always been the pillar of our family. A dedicated staff nurse at a private hospital in Gurugram, he spent his nights caring for patients, monitoring emergencies, and saving lives. Today, that same brother is lying helplessly on an ICU bed, fighting for his own life.

On the night of 17 January, while returning home after duty, Rahul met with a severe road accident when his bike collided with a delivery rider. The impact caused serious brain swelling and critical head injury. Doctors had to immediately perform an emergency craniotomy, removing a portion of his skull to reduce the pressure on his brain. Since then, he has remained in critical condition. Though he is no longer in a deep coma, he can only open his eyes. He cannot speak properly, cannot move independently, and is completely dependent on life-saving support and constant ICU care.

As per the medical documents from Paras Hospitals, Rahul has been under the Neurosurgery department, requiring multiple procedures including craniotomy and cranioplasty.

Rahul was not just a nurse; he was our family’s backbone. Our father has been unemployed for nearly 8–9 years after setbacks in his small clinic. Our mother is a heart patient with breathing complications who requires regular care. Rahul became the sole earning member, managing household expenses, medical needs, and responsibilities without ever complaining. He had simple dreams: to grow in his profession, settle our family, and get married in the next couple of years. Today, all those dreams are paused as he struggles to even form words.

As his elder brother, I am doing everything possible from my side. I am a doctor in our village, and I have exhausted my savings, borrowed from relatives, and tried every possible source. Our younger brother is also standing with me, supporting in every way he can. Both of us are fighting for Rahul, but we have now reached a point where we cannot move forward without support. Watching my younger brother, who once cared for so many patients, lie helpless on the same hospital bed is something no family should ever endure.

Rahul has always been a responsible son and a loving brother. He worked night shifts so our parents could live with dignity. Today, he needs the same compassion he once gave to others. Continued ICU care, surgeries, and rehabilitation are crucial for his recovery. Without financial support, his treatment may get interrupted, and that is a risk we cannot afford to take.

With folded hands, I request you to please come forward and help us save Rahul. Your support – no matter how small – can help continue his treatment and give him a real chance to recover, speak again, walk again and return to the family that cannot imagine life without him.

Please help my brother fight this battle.
