My name is Amanpreet Kaur, and I’m raising funds for Kaushal Devi, a 52-year-old widow from Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
Kaushal Devi has spent her entire life working as a house help; cleaning homes, washing dishes, cooking meals, just to give her children a decent life. Her hands have known endless labour, but her heart always overflowed with love and care. She never asked for much, only for her children to grow up happy and secure.
When Life Turned Its Back on Her
Her life took a painful turn when her husband passed away during the Covid pandemic. Since then, everything has fallen apart. Her only son; the same child she sacrificed everything for, has vanished when she needed him the most, leaving her and her daughter to fend for themselves. In her weakest moment, when a mother longs for her son’s support, he chose to walk away, and that pain still lingers in her eyes.
Kaushal has been diagnosed with cancer, and yet her spirit remains unshaken. Even as the disease weakens her body, she refuses to let it break her hope. Every morning, she puts on her wig, applies her bindi, and sits up with a quiet dignity that moves everyone who meets her. She says softly, “If I lose hope, my daughter will break.”
A Daughter’s Love Keeping Her Alive
Her daughter, Barkha, is her only support. She works as a domestic help, earning just ₹1,500 a month. That small amount somehow feeds both of them, pays for medicines, and covers a bit of her mother’s care. Barkha’s young shoulders carry more pain and responsibility than anyone her age should. Still, she holds her mother’s hand every night and whispers, “We’ll get through this, Ma.”
Until now, she has survived on small borrowings and the kindness of neighbours. But now, the cost of chemotherapy, hospital visits, and medicines has become impossible to manage. She urgently needs our help to continue her treatment and stay alive.
