The mountains of Jammu & Kashmir's Chenab Valley have once again witnessed nature's fury. Between 1st and 7th July 2026, relentless rainfall triggered a series of flash floods, landslides, and debris flows across Doda and Kishtwar, leaving families homeless, roads destroyed, and livelihoods buried under mud and rocks. What began with a cloudburst in Bhalesa (Doda) on 1 July soon escalated into multiple heavy rainfall incidents across the region, turning peaceful villages into disaster zones.
In Doda, the cloudburst in Bhalesa washed mud and debris across villages, cutting off several interior roads and isolating local communities. Days later, Thathri and Prem Nagar witnessed massive landslides that buried scores of houses, shops, and vehicles under thick debris. Officials confirmed that this was the third flash flood incident reported in the Doda–Kishtwar region within 48 hours, highlighting the continuing danger posed by the relentless rainfall.
In Kishtwar, torrential rain triggered a major landslide near the 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project, burying several vehicles under mud and rocks. The Doda–Kishtwar Highway (NH-244), the only major road connecting the two districts, was blocked at multiple locations, disrupting transport, rescue operations, and the movement of essential supplies. Restoration teams and heavy machinery have been working continuously to reopen roads and restore connectivity.
Although no official fatalities have been confirmed in these latest incidents, the devastation has been severe. Families have lost homes, shops have been destroyed, vehicles remain buried beneath debris, and many communities continue to struggle with damaged roads, interrupted livelihoods, and limited access to food, clean drinking water, healthcare, and other essential services. With the monsoon still active, thousands living in these mountainous regions continue to face the constant fear of further landslides and flash floods.
Today, these families need our support more than ever. Your contribution can help provide emergency food, clean drinking water, temporary shelter, blankets, hygiene kits, medicines, and other essential relief materials to those whose lives have been turned upside down. Every donation, big or small, can help a family take the first step towards recovery.
