95 Lives Lost. Thousands of Families Have Nothing Left to Call Home.

A few days ago, floodwater entered villages across Upper Assam without warning.

Within minutes, homes disappeared under water. Families ran with whatever they could carry. Many couldn't save anything.

Some lost their homes.

Some lost their farms.

Some lost the people they loved the most. Today, thousands of families are trying to rebuild their lives from nothing. A sudden cloudburst in the hills of Nagaland caused rivers like Dikhow, Disang and Dhansiri to overflow. These rivers usually do not flood like this.

Villages had no warning.

People had no time to escape.

The water reached homes before families even understood what was happening.

The Situation Today

  • 14 districts are on high alert.
  • More than 7 lakh people have been affected.
  • Many villages have suffered severe flooding.
  • Over 2 lakh people are living in relief camps.
  • More than 35,000 animals have been affected.
  • Roads, bridges and embankments have been badly damaged, leaving many villages cut off.

The floodwater may go away but rebuilding life will take months.

Sevarth Mission Foundation's team visited some of the worst-affected villages, including:

  • Nimaijaan
  • Hiloni Nepalikhuti
  • Panbesha
  • Tati Pathar

They met families who had lost almost everything.

This is what we found:

  • Homes filled with mud or completely washed away.
  • Families sleeping under temporary sheets because they have no house left.
  • Empty kitchens with nothing to cook.
  • Children with no safe place to study.
  • Farmers staring at fields that have become lakes.
  • Families who have no income because crops and livestock are gone.

Families now need support to rebuild their lives.

They urgently need:

  • Temporary shelters
  • House rebuilding materials
  • Beds and sleeping essentials
  • Stoves and kitchen utensils
  • Cleaning supplies to remove mud from homes
  • Support to restart farming and earn a living again
