20 Dead, 7 Missing and Many People in Relief Camps as Keralam Needs Support

Heavy monsoon rain has caused floods and landslides across Keralam since the night of July 31, 2026. As of August 4, 2026, 20 people have died and 7 people are still missing. Every day this continues, more families lose their homes and their safety.

The number of people affected is growing fast. More than 11,000 people are currently staying in relief camps across the state, up from 5,792 people in 209 camps just a day earlier. 27 homes have been completely destroyed and 196 homes partially damaged. In Kannur district alone, 26 people from 8 families had to leave their homes after floodwater entered, and 2 people from the district are still missing.

Ten districts are currently under Orange Alert: Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta. Two days earlier, nine of these districts were under the more serious Red Alert. Laha in Pathanamthitta recorded 250 mm of rain in 24 hours, and the reservoir in Idukki rose nearly six feet in a day. Ranni town in Pathanamthitta and the Kuttanad region in Alappuzha are among the worst-hit, where floodwater is still receding slowly.

Rescue teams are working around the clock, but the need is bigger than what current resources can cover. Eight NDRF teams, along with police, fire services, boats, and helicopters, are active in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, and other affected districts. Families in relief camps need food, clean water, medical care, and shelter right away. Families who lost their homes completely will need support for months as they rebuild.

Your donation can directly reach the 11,000+ people currently in relief camps and the 27 families who lost their homes entirely. Every contribution helps provide food, clean water, medical supplies, and shelter materials to people who have nowhere else to go right now.
