Let Them Be Children Again

When you see a child selling flowers, pens, or small trinkets on the streets, pause for a moment.

Notice the tired eyes, the small hands clutching goods instead of books, the silence that hides a million unspoken dreams.

These children are working to feed their families, carrying responsibilities far heavier than they should ever bear.

Yet, inside, their hearts long for school, for a pencil, for a chance to learn and grow.

The Reality

1. Millions of children in India are out of school, not because they don’t want to learn, but because life forced them to earn or care for others.
2. Poverty pushes children into work; some in shops, others on construction sites, brick kilns, or even the streets.
3. Reports from UNICEF, ASER, and ILO show that despite laws and programs, a large number of children still never enter a classroom or drop out at a young age.
4. Over 85% of India’s workforce is in the informal sector, and many households depend on their children to survive.

Every day, children lose the chance to be children, and their dreams are left behind.

What We Can Do

1. Notice them, acknowledge them; a smile, a word of encouragement, or simply recognition can matter.
2. Support education initiatives, even small contributions for books, uniforms, or school meals can change a life.
