Story

Mrs. Sumitra, a 62-year-old mother and the backbone of her large joint family, has spent her life caring for her loved ones. Her family of 10 members depends mainly on farming, with only two steady earners, her eldest son, a cobbler, and her grandson, who also works to support the household. Their humble income keeps the family fed, sheltered, and educated.

But today, this hardworking family is facing a devastating crisis.

A Sudden Illness That Changed Everything

A month ago, Sumitra ji developed a painful swelling on the left side of her neck, along with recurring fever. What they hoped was a simple infection has now turned into a frightening medical reality.

Doctors have diagnosed her with Moderately Differentiated Squamous Cell Carcinoma, a type of head-and-neck cancer confirmed through detailed histopathology. Further tests and scans show that the cancer has spread to multiple lymph nodes in her neck, forming large necrotic tumors; some measuring nearly 5 cm.

CECT imaging also showed abnormal tissue thickening in her buccal mucosa and retromolar area, pointing to further cancer involvement. Cytology reports revealed high-risk malignant cells, necrosis, and other alarming changes.

As if this wasn't enough, an ultrasound of her abdomen found a bulky uterus with free fluid, indicating another medical concern that needs attention.

This diagnosis has shattered the family emotionally and financially.

A Family That Works Hard, But Cannot Afford Cancer Treatment

Sumitra ji’s son and grandson; both daily earners; are doing everything they can. But cancer treatment requires urgent biopsies, imaging, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and continuous hospital care. The costs are far beyond what a farming family with limited income can manage.

They are terrified of losing the person who has held their family together for decades.
