No one was prepared. In the quiet valleys of Jammu & Kashmir, the sky split apart and unleashed torrents of rain that turned calm streams into raging rivers of mud and debris. Within moments, entire homes disappeared. Families were separated in the chaos. People shouted, cried, and prayed, but the floods moved faster than anyone could escape.
The force of the cloudburst destroyed everything in its path community kitchens, security posts, streets, cars, and the fragile shelters of families. What began as an ordinary night ended in heartbreak, with:
- Dozens of lives lost
- Over a hundred severely injured
- Countless still missing many of them young children
The scenes are unbearable:
Mothers holding on to lifeless children, wrapped in soaked sheets. Fathers calling out names into the night, hoping for a reply that never comes. Soldiers, volunteers, and villagers digging with bare hands through mud and stone, refusing to give up.
What was once a place of faith and pilgrimage now lies buried in silence and sorrow. Homes are flattened, paths blocked, and prayers have turned into desperate cries for survival.
Yet, even in this darkness, courage shines. Local rescuers are pulling people to safety, sharing whatever food, blankets, and medicines they can find. But their strength alone is not enough.
