Help Meera Fight Back Against Cancer

My name is Akash, and I’m the eldest son of Meera Devi. For the last six months, our family’s life has completely changed. My mother, who was always full of energy and warmth, has been slowly fading in front of our eyes.

It all started with severe stomach pain, vomiting, and weakness. When we took her to the doctor, they suspected gallbladder stones, which is already a painful and serious condition. But when her pain kept increasing, the doctors advised an ultrasound; and that’s when our world fell apart.

The reports showed a tumour in her gallbladder, and further tests confirmed that it was cancer. Later scans revealed that the cancer had spread to her liver and nearby lymph nodes. Her bile ducts are blocked, which caused severe jaundice, and now her bilirubin levels have gone above 8 mg/dL. Because of this, she feels weak all the time, her eyes and skin have turned yellow, and she can barely eat.

Doctors said the tumour in her liver has grown to more than 6 inches, and her condition is very critical. We admitted her to Lucknow City Hospital, where she was operated on to control her jaundice and pain. But even after spending everything we had, her treatment had to be stopped because of the rising costs.

Now, she is being treated at the Cancer Healer Center, where doctors have advised immunotherapy; a treatment that helps the body’s own immune system fight the cancer cells and slow down tumour growth. It’s her only chance to recover and live a better life, but it requires expensive diagnostic tests and therapy sessions that we simply can’t afford.

My father works as a steam press labourer, and I work as a helper in a hosiery unit. Together, we earn just enough to take care of our family and my younger siblings’ education. Managing my mother’s treatment expenses is too difficult, is impossible for us now, as this is a very big amount for us.

Every day, we take care of her at home. It’s painful to watch her struggle, but she still looks at us with hope and that hope is what keeps us going.

I just want my mother to live.
