Story

In mid-September 2025, Assam was struck by another devastating wave of floods. On September 18 and 19, the Doyang, Dhansiri, and Gelabeel rivers overflowed after relentless rains and sudden dam releases, submerging large parts of Golaghat district.

In Sarupathar subdivision alone, more than 25 villages went underwater. Nearly 2,000 people were displaced, with 1,800 taking shelter in seven overcrowded relief camps. Across Golaghat, over 24,588 people were affected in just a matter of days.

These floods came only weeks after earlier waves in June and July had already submerged 1,200 villages across 16 districts, leaving more than 5.6 lakh people struggling to survive. This tragedy is not just numbers. It shattered lives, broken fields, drowned cattle, and entire communities cut off from the world.

Human & Environmental Impact

At least 46 people have lost their lives in this flood season. Thousands more remain stranded on embankments or huddled under plastic sheets in temporary shelters. Over 12,610 hectares of cropland have been destroyed, drowning paddy, maize, and vegetables that farmers had planted with debt and hope. Livestock has been lost in large numbers, while the surviving animals are starving due to severe shortages of fodder.

Even Assam's wildlife has not been spared. Nearly 70% of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has been submerged, forcing endangered one-horned rhinos, deer, and wild boars to flee to higher ground. Anti-poaching camps have been washed away, and the sanctuary's delicate ecosystem is in peril.

In Majuli, the world's largest river island, families have resorted to carrying their deceased loved ones across rivers on banana rafts, as bridges have been swept away, and roads have collapsed. The resilience of the people is matched only by the scale of their suffering.

Why Your Help Matters

Right now, families in Assam are living with nothing but fear and uncertainty. Mothers sit in relief camps, trying to feed their children with whatever little rice they receive. Farmers watch helplessly as their drowned cattle; their only source of income floats away. Children clutch soaked schoolbooks, wondering if they will ever go back to class.

Your support is not just aid - it is survival, dignity, and hope.

Food & Clean Water - so no child has to drink floodwater or sleep hungry.

Fodder & Shelter for Livestock - because a farmer’s cow or goat is his only wealth.

Books & Supplies - so children can hold onto dreams, even when schools are underwater.

Rebuilding Aid - to put families back under safe roofs and reconnect broken roads and bridges.

Medical Support - to stop deadly diseases from spreading in crowded camps.

Every rupee you give becomes a lifeline; a bowl of rice, a clean glass of water, a medicine packet, a roof over a child’s head.

Stand with Assam today.
